As a writer you will have days, or perhaps weeks or months, when you try to dredge up ideas from the deep swamp of your mind only to come up blank. You have the drive, you have the time, you’re not distracted– the well has simply run dry.
Enjoyment while writing, much like a hard workout, doesn’t mean wearing a slapstick grin at all times. It simply means that you’re in the zone– unafraid, invested, committed to the journey, and curious about where this is all going.
The worst problem, and one that has plagued me into adulthood, was just the sheer size of what I was trying to do. I couldn’t help but see what I hadn’t written yet every time I tried to write. I had so far to go.
You’ve gone the mile and put aside time to write. The house is quiet, a fresh cup of coffee is steaming at your elbow, your back is supported, your pants aren’t too tight. Everything is quiet. Conditions are perfect.
